The Westchester County Business Journal has selected two Westmed physicians among nine 2017 Doctors of Distinction to be honored on October 24. They are Dr. Cynthia Chin, thoracic surgeon, who was nominated by White Plains Hospital’s Center of Cancer Care for the “Female Trailblazer” award and Dr. Ashutosh Kaul, bariatric surgeon, who was nominated by Greenwich Hospital for the “Cutting Edge” award.
Dr. Chin, who sees Westmed patients at 1 Theall Rd., Rye, is a thoracic surgeon and director of the Women’s Cancer Program Services at White Plains Hospital. She is board certified by The American Board of Thoracic Surgery and The America Board of Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. She has extensive experience in treating both benign and malignant conditions of the chest and its structures. With the use of minimally invasive video-assisted techniques in the treatment of cancers of the lung, esophagus, and thymus, Dr. Chin has enabled her patients to have minimal pain, fewer complications and faster recoveries.
She earned her medical degree with honors from the State University of New York at Stony Brook School of Medicine. She completed a general surgery residency at St. Vincent’s Hospital. During this training, she devoted two years as a surgical oncology research fellow at the Medical College of Virginia. Following her residency, Dr. Chin completed a fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at Mount Sinai Medical Center. She was a clinical fellow in thoracic surgery at University of Pittsburgh. Upon completion of her training, Dr. Chin was appointed assistant professor of cardiothoracic surgery at Mount Sinai Medical Center.
Dr. Kaul, who sees Westmed patients at 3030 Westchester Ave., Purchase, is board certified by the American College of Surgeons. The primary focus of his practice is advanced abdominal laparoscopic surgery with focus in foregut and bariatric surgery.
He was awarded his MBBS degree from L.L.R.M. Medical College, Meerut, India. He completed residencies at Saint Barnabas Medical Center, Livingston, NJ and Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center, NY. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh, U.K. and completed a fellowship in minimal access surgery at the Institute for Minimally Invasive Surgery, NY.
He is professor of surgery at New York Medical College, director of bariatric surgery at Greenwich Hospital, CT and director of minimally invasive surgery at Westchester Medical Center.
An internationally renowned surgeon, he takes on challenging and revisional cases and is on the faculty at many training courses for other surgeons. He has been named to Castle Connolly’s “Best Doctors” list multiple times.
