Weight Management

There are so many options in the world of weight loss today. In the past, people used to think that it was all about diet and exercise. The Westmed Weight Management Team knows that there is much more involved - that’s why we take a completely different approach.

What We Do:

Westmed’s licensed Doctors of Physical Therapy are available to work with you to achieve your fitness and weight loss goals. Our physical therapists begin by performing a comprehensive fitness evaluation. A thorough fitness evaluation can often uncover underlying musculoskeletal issues that may be affecting your health and fitness. Based on these results, we will design an individually tailored exercise program for you. These exercises will be performed and progressed in our clinic under medical supervision. You will also be provided with a series of home exercises to supplement and reinforce your clinical program.

Our program is designed to empower people who are overweight to take greater control of their health. We know that it’s much easier to stick with a program if you enjoy it. This is why we work closely with each individual patient to customize a program by taking into account your personal needs, general health, likes and dislikes, as well as your physical capabilities. When performed correctly, this program leads to loss of weight, an improvement in energy levels, a decrease in the aches and pains associated with being overweight, and an improvement in function and overall quality of life.

We believe that the best outcomes come from a multidisciplinary approach to your healthcare. We work closely with your physician and the entire weight management team to monitor your progress and provide support.

Upon discharge from our program, you will have achieved a greater level of physical fitness. In addition, you will have been trained in proper exercise form, gained a greater appreciation of the importance of stretching and body alignment and be able to safely progress your exercise program independently. Applying what you’ve learned will reduce the chance of injury. Our physical therapists will also discuss the next steps in your fitness routine such as exercising at a local gym or in the comfort of your home to help you maintain a healthier lifestyle.
