What are the Types of Vascular Disease?
Millions of Americans are at risk for a number of vascular diseases that occur outside the heart. These diseases include stroke, carotid artery disease, peripheral arterial disease and aortic aneurysms. Early detection is important so that vascular diseases can be effectively treated.
Who Should Be Tested for Vascular Disease?
Your physician will recommend vascular screening if there is a concern. There are certain high-risk groups where screening is often more critical – such as anyone 60 years of age or over with a history of:
- High blood pressure
- High cholesterol
- Heart Disease
- Abdominal Aortic Disease
What is Involved with Vascular Testing?
Vascular Care at Westmed Medical Group offers a variety of tests to diagnose vascular disease, which is often silent and can lead to potentially serious conditions.
Patients are examined using Doppler ultrasound techniques, which are simple, non-invasive and painless. Our highly experienced registered vascular technologist does the testing, which is reviewed by a vascular surgeon. The surgeon can then determine whether there is vascular disease present and if there is a need for treatment.
