About the Provider
Dr. Gundy grew up in Rye and attended Rye public schools. He graduated from Dartmouth College and received his medical degree from Cornell University Medical College, where he was elected to the AOA Medical Honor Society and received awards for excellence in pediatrics and surgery. His surgical residency was completed at Roosevelt Hospital in New York City, and his orthopedic residency at the Hospital for Special Surgery.
He is board certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, and he is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery. He has been listed as a “Top Doctor, New York Metro Area” since 1999. He is one of the founding members of WESTMED Medical Group, was on its board of directors from 1996-2006 and served as chairman from 2001-2006. He received WESTMED’s Leonard Finkelstein “Excellence Award” in 2011.
Dr. Gundy holds an academic appointment at The Weill Cornell University Medical College and is affiliated with White Plains Hospital. Although he no longer performs surgery, he continues non-surgical treatment of all orthopedic problems and is happy being a very conservative physician. He believes that “the body wants to heal itself, so don’t get in the way.”
He has found that almost all injuries happen during stressful times, and those orthopedic illnesses seem to get complicated by elements of denial, grief, anger, inappropriately high expectations and impatience–ingredients that interfere with healing.
Dr. Gundy strives to incorporate a “culture of healing” in his practice, by encouraging the patient to accept the injury or illness, release the stress, let go of the anger and give in patiently to the marvelous but slow healing process. This leads to a more efficient recovery with less pain and less anxiety, and the smallest “scars.” His Bubbacratic Oath is displayed in each of his exam rooms.
