Learning you have diabetes can be difficult at first. With the help of a Certified Diabetes Educator® (CDE®) you can arm yourself with the knowledge and tools to effectively manage and improve your health. CDEs have specialized knowledge that can make a difference in your physical health and mental outlook.
A Certified Diabetes Educator® (CDE®) is a health professional who possesses comprehensive knowledge of and experience in diabetes prevention, prediabetes, and diabetes management. The CDE® promotes self-management to achieve individualized behavioral and treatment goals that reduce risks and optimize health outcomes.
Ms. Smith received a bachelor of science degree in nutrition and food science from Marymount College in Tarrytown, NY. She then received her ADN/RN degree from Quinsigamond Community College in Worcester, MA.
She is a certified diabetes educator and certified insulin pump trainer at Westmed Medical Group. Ms. Smith is available to see patients who have a Westmed primary care physician or Westmed endocrinologist and have been diagnosed with diabetes.
In previous positions, Ms. Smith was the diabetes education program coordinator with Montefiore Health Systems in Mount Vernon, NY and delivered diabetes education and management services in an outpatient setting at Metro West Medical Center in Framingham, MA.
Ms. Smith is a member of the American Association of Diabetes Educators, Cambridge Who’s Who of Professionals and Executives and the American Diabetes Association. She is also an office holder in the New York Certified Diabetes Educators of the Lower Hudson Valley.
