WESTMED will be getting its shipment of flu vaccine in September. Our Infectious Diseases specialist Dr. Arthur Forni says, "The official influenza season runs between October and February, depending on when it shows up in one's community. There is some concern that the benefits of a flu shot received before October could decrease by the following February or March, when, in some years, flu infections are peaking. This 'waning immunity' may be particularly seen in patients over age 65. So while getting the vaccine early is preferable to not getting it at all, in most cases it is reasonable to wait until October to get vaccinated."
