High Risk Pregnancies Need Special Expertise

Perinatology, a subspecialty within the field of obstetrics and gynecology, is now an ongoing service at WESTMED.   Our perinatologists, also known as maternal-fetal medicine specialists, provide specialized care of the fetus and for women with complicated or high-risk pregnancies, including twins and higher order multiple births.

Because of their years of experience in managing a wide variety of complex maternal-fetal conditions, these physicians’ expertise ensures that patients and their babies are as healthy and comfortable as possible during all stages of pregnancy, labor and delivery.

Experts in Complex Maternal-Fetal Conditions

WESTMED’s perinatologists provide evaluation, monitoring and treatment when needed to ensure the successful birth of your baby (babies). They specialize in prenatal diagnosis, including comprehensive ultrasonography, chorionic villus sampling, amniocentesis and cord blood sampling. Babies are delivered by WESTMED obstetricians at White Plains Hospital, Lawrence Hospital Center and Greenwich Hospital.  Infants who require neonatal intensive care services after delivery are admitted to White Plains Hospital, Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital, Columbia University Medical Center or Montefiore Medical Center.

The six new maternal-fetal medicine physicians at WESTMED are Drs. Avishai A. Alkalay, Kafui A. Demasio, David J. Garry, Hye J. Heo, John G. Ilagan and Nancy E. Judge.
