WESTMED is a generous supporter of the community it serves. The Group has recruited a team for community fund-raising events, such as the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk, the Start! Heart Walk and special events sponsored by the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and the Lupus Foundation.
Employees have contributed to food drives for the benefit of the Food Bank for Westchester, A-Home, United Interfaith Home Bank and various churches. We hold a Toy Drive during the holiday season for the children of Edward Williams Elementary School in Mount Vernon in cooperation with Westchester Jewish Community Services. We also sponsor children to fund their fall school supplies through WJCS’s Back to School Program.
Each year WESTMED cosponsors an average of three blood drives per year with White Plains Hospital Center to bring the gift of life to patients in need. One pint of blood can save up to three lives. Blood is used for surgical procedures, organ transplants, trauma and chemotherapy, and to save the lives of accident victims.
Most recently, WESTMED employees and physicians are supporting Matthew 25 House in devastated Port-Au-Price, Haiti. That facility supplies the manpower to feed thousands of children a day and to house U.S. missionaries, medical teams and students as they minister around the region. Currently, a soccer field adjacent to the House is being used as a field hospital and homeless shelter for thousands. For information on how you can help, click here.
